The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology closed 2024 with significant strides in IT and electronics manufacturing, Artificial Intelligence (AI) deployment, and the expansion of digital infrastructure.
From groundbreaking semiconductor projects to AI platforms and language translation technology, India is positioning itself as a global technology leader.
Semiconductor Projects Transform India’s Tech Landscape
Key Approvals and Capacities:
Four semiconductor projects approved, including one chip fabrication unit and three chip packaging facilities. The chip fabrication plant at Dholera, Gujarat, a joint venture between India’s Tata Electronics and Taiwan’s Powerchip, will manufacture 50,000 wafer starts per month.
Chip Packaging Units:
The largest chip packaging unit in India is being set up in Morigaon, Assam, with a capacity of 48 million chips per month. Two units in Sanand, Gujarat include one by CG Power (15.07 million chips per day) and another by Kaynes Technology (6.33 million chips per day). Combined capacity of all packaging units exceeds 70 million chips per month. CCC AI Revolution: India AI Platform Gains Momentum The government approved the ₹10,372 crore India AI Programme in March 2024 to foster safe, trusted AI deployment and promote innovation. The platform includes resources for startups, research, investments, and government initiatives.
